The toys were made as a promotional tie in to the Nintendo WiiU Console launch. The console featured a tablet control that would allow you to keep playing a game if you could not use the TV as long as you were within 30 feet of the console base docking station. The toys featured in this promotion were for the new
Super Mario 3D land and the
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze game release. (Links are video trailers on YouTube) The console did not sell well and people thought that the WiiU was just a controller or extension of the previous console called the Nintendo Wii.
